Small Sample Adapter Instructions
These instructions apply to both the Standard Coupling Nut and Magnetic Coupling for spindle connection (BROOKFIELD AMETEK).
This instruction sheet applies to the Small Sample Adapter with stainless steel chamber (black water jacket) as well as the disposable sample chamber (gray water jacket), which can be used with either the standard spindle coupling nut or the magnetic spindle coupling system.
Spindles that can be used with the Small Sample Adapter are identified in Tables 2 and 4. Mount the viscometer securely on its laboratory stand according to the operating instructions provided with the stand.
Attach the locating channel (alignment bracket) to the viscometer by threading the mounting screw into the tapped hole in the viscometer pivot cup. Do not overtighten. Note the position of the locating pin.
Connect a length of 1/4 or 5/16 inch inside-diameter hose from the circulating bath outlet to the lower (inlet) fitting on the water jacket. Connect another hose from the upper (outlet) fitting to the bath inlet fitting. Hoses should be long enough to ensure proper flow without exerting side thrust on the assembly during operation.
The minimum temperature is 0°C and maximum temperature is 100°C. For operation above 60°C, use high-temperature tubing. For tubing and fluid recommendations, see Table 1.

Notes:
1. Fluran is a registered trademark of Norton Co.
2. Use only laboratory grade ethylene glycol. Do not use automobile antifreeze, which contains materials that can damage the equipment.
3. Fluran tubing (5/16-inch ID) and clamps are available in kit Part ULA-54A.
4. Do not use high viscosity oil. Recommended fluid is 50 centipoise.
